Annual Events

FINANCE CAREER OVERVIEW DAY:

This is a student run event that aims to educate first year students about various finance careers.  At this event, second year students give presentations regarding their experiences throughout the many career paths within finance and financial services.  The finance club strives to use this day as an open forum to provide candid information on finance career paths through a Q & A period following each presentation.

FINANCE DAY: September 12, 2008

This is an off campus event held in the Washington DC area that serves as an exciting introduction to different career paths in finance. Alumni and business leaders from investment banking, corporate finance, project finance, wealth management, alternative investments and financial consulting will provide you with informative and powerful overview of career tracks.  At the conclusion of each functional presentation, time is allotted for panel discussions in order to encourage in depth dialogue regarding your specific questions. Past Panelists have included: Bear Stearns, Credit Suisse, Friedman Billings Ramsey, JP Morgan, OPIC, & Wachovia Securities.

WALL STREET WEEK: October 20, 2008 - October 24, 2008

Each October in between the first two classroom modules, members of the first year class are offered the opportunity to attend a Fall Career Week trip to New York City.   The weeklong trek includes tracks that are dedicated to Investment Banking, Sales & Trading, Investment Management, and Alternative Investments.  Seasoned Wall Street executives and junior associates give presentations regarding their firms and different careers in finance.  In addition to the on-site meetings, typically there are networking opportunities (lunches, happy hours) with alumni and key decision makers.  Many MSB students and alumni attribute their internship opportunities directly to contacts made during Wall Street Week. Past Participants include: AIG Private Equity, Bear Stearns, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Lehman Brothers, JP Morgan, KPMG, Morgan Stanley, Standard Chartered, and Wachovia Securities.

VALUATION - MODELING TRAINING

Every fall the Finance Club brings in professional instructors for a Financial Modeling 101 seminar.  This seminar is an intensive two-day workshop designed to develop financial modeling skills through actual hands-on construction of a financial model.  Each participant will build their own interactive financial model from “scratch” to practice blending accounting, finance, and Excel skills.  The seminar is often helpful for preparing first year students for technical interview questions and will ensure that you hit the ground running during your summer internship in finance.
