What is Beta Gama Sigma?

Beta Gamma Sigma was formed in 1907 by a group of students at the Unversity of Wisconsin who sought a way to honor and encourage academic excellence among students of commerce.Through susequent coalitions with similar organizations at other colleges, BGS became officially recognized by American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business in 1919.The Directors' Table was established in 1969 to honor the 250 BGS members who have  best demostrated the ideals of BGS while making the most meaningful contributions to the enterprise system throughout their careers.In 1991, the Board of Governors met to update BGS' mission and objectives:
 
The Mission Statement of Beta Gamma Sigma is to encourage and honor academic achievemnt and personal excellence in the study and practice of business.  This mission is exemplified in the four objectives of the Society.

These objectives are:
I. Encourage and honor high academic achievement by students of busienss and management through chapters in all AACSB-The International Association for Management Education accredited schools.
II. Foster in Beta Gamma Sigma members an enduring commitment to the principles and values of the Society: honor and integrity, pursuit of wisdom, and earnestness.
III. Support the advancement of business thought, at both the national and chapter levels, so as to encourage lifelong learning for the Society's members and other consituents.
IV. Enhance the visibility and reputation of Beta Gamma Sigma.

Today,  membership of 385,000 of the brightest business minds in the world leaves Beta Gamma Sigma well-poised for the 21st century.
