MBA EVENING PROGRAM ADMISSIONS

Application deadlines for consideration for Fall 2009 admission are January 9, 2009 (Round 1) and April 17, 2009 (Round 2).

Competitive applicants for admission will have a minimum of three years post-baccalaureate work experience and hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Individuals with diverse academic & professional backgrounds are encouraged to apply.  

MBA Evening Program applicants are also expected to have the equivalent of one year of college Algebra and Calculus.  

You are required to apply online. Please read the application instructions carefully before completing the application.

Only completed applications can be reviewed by the Admissions Committee. Completion of the admission file is the responsibility of the applicant.

The following materials are required at the time of application:

  • Application Form  
  • Resume (including work experience, professional affiliations and interests)  
  • Essays (see application for details)  
  • Non-refundable application fee of  $175  
  • Official transcripts of all academic coursework (officially translated if not in English)  
  • Two professional references  
  • Official GMAT test results (GMAT scores are valid for 5 years) 
  • TOEFL or IELTS test results for all non-U.S. applicants whose undergraduate degree was in a language other than English.

Resume (1-2 pages total)
A current resume, including non-work affiliations, personal interests and community contributions is requested to be submitted with a printed version of the application.

Essays
Please provide responses to the following questions.

1) Please describe your short-term (immediately post-MBA) and longer-term career objectives.  Why are these goals meaningful to you, and why is an MBA important at this point in your career? (750 words maximum)

2) How will you benefit from and contribute to the Georgetown MBA Evening Program?  Give specific examples in your response. (750 words maximum)

3) Preparing students for the challenge of leadership is a significant goal of the Georgetown MBA program.  What is your definition of leadership, and how have you demonstrated the qualities of a leader professionally and/or personally? (750 words maximum)

4) (Optional) The Admissions Committee welcomes any additional relevant information you wish to include in support of your application.  If necessary, please comment on your academic record as an indication of your potential for graduate management education.  You may also use this space to explain issues such as gaps in your work history, why you are not currently working full-time, or why you have not included a recommendation from your current supervisor. (500 words maximum)

For reapplicants only:
How have you strengthened your application over the past year?  The Admissions Committee welcomes information about any professional, academic, or personal achievements that are noteworthy. (500 words maximum)

Application Fee
The application form must be submitted with a non-refundable fee of $175. This fee may be paid by check, money order or credit card. Checks and money orders should be made payable to "Georgetown University."  Note: please ensure that your name, social security number and program name are printed clearly on the check. Requests for waivers of the application fee are not accepted.

Interviews
Interviews are by invitation of the Admissions Committee only. After your application is submitted and complete, we will contact you to schedule an interview if the Admissions Committee determines an interview is needed.

Official Transcripts
The MBA-EP program requires official transcripts of all academic work beyond secondary school.  Photocopied documents may not be used to fulfill this requirement. A document is official when submitted to the McDonough School of Business in a sealed envelope, signed across the seal, by the appropriate academic officer. You are responsible for obtaining certified translations of all original documentation that is not in English.

Letters of Recommendation
Two (2) letters of recommendation are required and each must be enclosed in a sealed envelope signed by the evaluator. We suggest that both recommendations be professional references from those individuals who know you in an occupational setting, and that at least one of the recommendations is written by a current or previous supervisor.  Georgetown University reserves the right to contact the recommenders for any applicant during the application review process.

GMAT
You must submit an official copy of a GMAT taken within the past 5 years. You should request that your score(s) be sent to us, designating Georgetown MBA Evening Program as the recipient with our GMAT code JT7-G0-64 (formerly 5281). English Language Proficiency
All applicants for whom English is not their native language are required to demonstrate a level of proficiency in the English language sufficient to meet the admission requirements of Georgetown University and the McDonough School of Business. Proficiency may be demonstrated by the receipt of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in the United States or from a university in another country where English is the primary language of instruction. All other applicants must submit a current TOEFL examination directly to Georgetown University. TOEFL scores are valid for two years.

Candidates who take the computer-based TOEFL will be scored on a different scale from the paper-based and Internet-based tests. The minimum required score for the computer-based TOEFL is 250, the minimum required score for the paper-based TOEFL is 600 and the minimum required score for the Internet-based TOEFL is 100.

The TOEFL code for Georgetown University MBA Evening Program is 5281. The Department Code is 02. For more information regarding TOEFL please contact ETS (e-mail toefl@ets.org or web-site: www.toefl.org).  Information regarding IELTS can be obtained from www.ielts.org.

In addition to the TOEFL, we now accept International English Language Testing System (IELTS) results. We require a minimum score of 7.5 out of 10 on the academic module.
